Head coach of Bangladesh Chandika Hathurusingha praised India’s strategy in the match and lamented his side’s loss in the shortened Kanpur Test. Bangladesh lost by seven wickets in the fourth-shortest Test match in history, lasting just 173.2 overs, due to a batting collapse on the fifth day.
Bangladesh only lasted one session on Tuesday, October 1, despite their hopes of batting for an extended amount of time to win the match. They lost Shadman Islam, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in a span of twenty-one minutes.
“We are suffering greatly from the loss in terms of performance. India’s strategy was truly unprecedented. Kudos to Rohit and the Indian team for devising that strategy and succeeding with it. In actuality, we were slow to respond (to India’s proposal),” claimed Hathurusingha.
“In this series, hitting was underwhelming. A few athletes had success in the previous series. In the last few series, we haven’t been playing to our full ability. The caliber of the competition was one factor in the batting. This series featured extremely high levels of skill showing. We are drawing a lot of learnings from this. The best team is this one. The most difficult task is to represent India in India. We are aware of our improvement needs,” he continued. After winning a historic series in Pakistan, Bangladesh traveled to India, although Hathurusingha acknowledged that they were aware of the difficult task that awaited them there.
“After defeating Pakistan, we traveled here, but we were aware that India would present significant hurdles. If I incorporate our emotions into our act, it won’t work out well. We shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves after this outcome because we weren’t very ecstatic about our victory in Pakistan. He stated, “We knew what we could and couldn’t do to compete with these guys here. We knew what we did well to win in Pakistan.”
“I believe that this series was entirely outplayed by us. We must get better because I could see the disparity in ability levels. Nevertheless, we fell short of our potential. We find it disappointing. If we are not receiving the proper support, there is no purpose in placing pressure on each individual player and their every choice in the center,” he continued.
But the captain’s choice to try a reverse sweep against Ravindra Jadeja and be bowled was supported by the head coach. “It is both a team and an individual plan. The wicket on which we are playing spins. If you have worked hard on the shot. It is a tactic to play the reverse sweep if the defense is being pushed,” he stated.
“I’m sure they’re upset with some of the decisions and dismissals. The fact that we lost a wicket whenever there was a bowling change is what really sticks out to me. He remarked, “We didn’t allow ourselves enough time to adjust to the new bowler.
Regarding if Shakib had already played his final Test. The head coach was unable to give a clear answer. Before agreeing to play in that series. The star all-rounder asked for security assurance for the home Tests against South Africa.
